So first of all, welcome to Dyspros' very first test drive meme! We're happy that you're interested in the game, and we hope that you have some fun playing with the setting, regardless of whether you decide to join or not.

As a general reminder, we recommend that you look over the game information before jumping in. In addition, if you decide you're ready to join, you're welcome to put in a reserve, and applications will open on May 4th at 12:01 AM (EST). Finally, if you have any questions or concerns, please send us a message!

So now, without further ado, let's get to playing:

A ; NEW RECRUIT

Well then, welcome to the guild, Initiate! After some thought (or maybe the choice was obvious), you've finally settled on a guild, and you're ready to get started. You're welcome to check out your accommodations and see what kind of people you'll be living with for the foreseeable future. This is your home now, so hopefully you get alone with them. If not, then you can just spend all of your time sharpening your skills!

Whether you're just claiming your bed or you're jumping right into the thick of things to practice or sign up for a mission, a new recruit is unlikely to go unnoticed.

B ; MISSION TIME

It's your first mission, which is pretty exciting, right? You have all these pictures in your head of going off to fight a dragon, to come home with great riches and valor...

Too bad those missions are for the higher ups.

No, it's the middle of the night, and you're out guarding the small fields just outside of town from wild animals. Right now you're standing by the cucumbers, which are considered especially important to guard, for some reason. You have to fight off sleepiness somehow, so maybe an animal will come out for you to scare off, or maybe you'll just end up chatting with whoever is stuck doing this with you.

Or you know, if you're a dick, you'll steal the vegetables for yourself.

C ; STORM THE CASTLE

Okay, the missions for initiates are pretty lame, and you're ready for some real fighting. You can go alone, or you can go with some other people, but it's off to Castle Dyspros! You'll find a variety of creatures to fight, and the power of teamwork will help you make progress through the castle!

Or you'll die. There's that too. Good thing it's fairly inconsequential, if weird!

Either way, have fun fighting to your heart's content!

[ Though things had been anything but boring with Lady Farnese, Serpico had still been quite accustomed to sitting around with nothing to do with long intervals of time. In fact, this isn't even his first mission assigned in doing something so innocuous. He is knelled in the grass of the fields, having just adjusted certain traps for wild animals (to eat, of course). Now? He's planting some seeds. He's already experienced how boring this type of mission had been, and resolved to never be so bored again.

He sighs as he pats the soil, his weapon sheathed and hidden beneath his cloak. ]

At least it's not raining tonight.

Mm...

[She doesn't mean to give such a short answer. Watching him planting seeds, though, it reminds her so much of Sophie and Lhant and home. It's hard not to feel a little homesick, isn't it...?

But she can't let herself become distracted, not when she has a mission to be focusing on. That wouldn't be fair on her poor partner, who's been keeping himself so busy. Could it be that he's also trying to distract himself from thinking of home...? Cheria leans a little closer, peering down at Serpico's efforts and pushing herself to smile for both their sakes. Nothing good can come from either of them moping...!]

[ It's always nice to have somebody who's looking out for you when you're in an adjustment period. There's something "big brotherly" about this guy as he approaches, a sweet smile on his face, even as one eye is mostly obscured by a stupid emo haircut. He places a hand on his/her back, looking reassuringly and amicable. ]

I couldn't help but notice you seem lost. Are you new here?

[ He might have just pickpocketed you. He's a bit of a klepto... ]

[ his first instinct is to frown back at whoever's touching him, but then comes that sly move— ]

Oh, dear, it appears that she'd overexerted herself in her studies once more, and, while on a trip through town, passed out. It happens. In fact, it happens so often most of Goldvale's inhabitants don't seem to be too fazed by it.

[ It has been a month since her arrival in Goldvale, and although the number of friends the shy princess has can only be counted on one hand, Kougyoku is more than capable of taking down the monsters inside the castle with her sword.

But for some reason, she dragged you, a stranger, along... ]

[Mahmut has a soft spot for performers. Out of all professions they are the ones that tie a community together. Not to mention they can give a good idea of what the people believe and think. So he made sure to visit the entertainment district, Silverbourne, quickly after arriving in this strange city.

He ignores the bars and clubs, opting instead to watch the street performers. It doesn't matter to him if they are just practicing or performing full stop. No matter if the act was perfect or filled with flaws he politely claps when it's done. He mostly looks perplexed though.]

[He doesn't mean the performance! Really! But you don't know that and it sounds like he just insulted your/your friend's act.]

[Ichiyou's dance is kind of strange, compared to the showy and lovely dances his fellow performers usually put on, and by the reddening of his face, he's hyper-aware of it. which is why he'll turn to Mahmut immediately.]

[ When it's the dead of night and the greatest mission your guild can currently offer you is guarding someone's vegetable garden, things tend to get... boring. If you're Dave, the best way to ignore the increasingly persistent nudge of offense taken from being assigned such an unimportant task would clearly be to make conversation with the guy next to you. You know, to stay awake. Fuck their life story. ]

Dude. If a Berserker and a Punisher had a fight who would win?

[ And he's wandering around Silverbourne, which is considerably less busy than the last district he was in. He's making his way through, but he can't shake the feeling of unease. It's all too familiar with these parts of town; one minute he's window-gazing, the next some guy on a motorcycle pulls up right in front of him and threatens to shoot, forcing him to give up his monkey. Just like how he could've sworn that happened in a less-than-ironic graphic comedy, his life in Goldvale would likely be enhanced by having some sort of good luck charm. And even if the guild leader asked, he'd just tell him the his revelation. You know what would make guild life better? A pet monkey.

So he stops the next person he sees. ]

But it might have been flung a little too far to possibly hit bystanders—namely you. Do you dodge? Hit it back? Do some weird trick?! Or maybe you’d get hit. Just how long is that wire anyway? ]

[A barrier of less than moderate strength had been cast around the garden. All those that stepped into it would alert themselves to their presence. An elemental spirit or two wanders in not so plain sight. There was no intruder that would dare besmirch the agricultural field. A bespectacled mage sits by a wooden post, his head facing upwards and covered by a book. Stacks of tomes are piled all around him. As of late, consciousness has become frightfully dull.

He could almost understand what Mystina feels like.]

Heh... Though I'm not one for repeating myself, it would seem that my goals must begin anew. How burdensome, but no matter.

[ Mission time. This was something he knew very well - though, uh, Gotham's missions were way different. In a place like this, Gotham was a little. Dreary.

But that's not the point. Now there's a guy in an above described superhero outfit perched on a roof. And there's the same guy flying across the night sky, landing on the next roof. Which might be right next to your character, yeah. ]

[ He'll continue on unless someone wants to ask him why he's flying around doing flips and shit. Or unless someone else flying around almost crashes into him. Stuff like that. ]

[He might be old, and he might be worthless, BUT HE'S DETERMINED. Sure, he couldn't find a group, but he's a tank! That's good enough for a little power leveling, right?

Unless the first thing he encounters is a pile of gooey eyeballs that paralyzes him. But surely, the next person to step out of the lobby wants to help the old man who's lying on the floor next to his lance, right?]

[He stands easily a head-and-shoulders taller than the bulk of the crowd, and they've taken notice; although he does nothing more threatening than walk, the locals give him a wide berth and sour looks.

It's difficult to tell how he's taking it. He remains silent and his lion-like face shows little expression. Perhaps the only sign of his discomfort is how often he flexes his hand about the shaft of the spear resting on his shoulder.

What is a stray Ronso to do?]

[A; Admittedly, she's not entirely sure of how she ended up in this place, but here she is. If anyone at The Ugly Jackal was expecting all new recruits to be large and intimidating, they're going to be sorely disappointed by the short, young girl wandering into the housing arrangements. All things considered, she doesn't seem to be put off at all by how absolutely bare the rooms are. Can't be too picky when you're a ninja, after all.

Either way, she's going to be claiming one of the lower bunks and plopping down on it. Feel free to strike up a conversation or tell her that's totally your bunk, man.]

[B; She's not one to look down on any kind of mission, but after 5 minutes of standing around and doing nothing, it's pretty safe to say this is incredibly dull. She's not entirely sure of who's this person she got saddled along with, but once she's stifled a yawn with her left hand, she's going to be turning her attention towards them with a friendly smile.]

[It seemed like a good idea at the time. Weeks of cleaning horses' stables without a long haul drive to wind down had left Asami feeling stir-crazy and suffocated, so one night she decided to try and take one of the horses out for a spin. Or a clopping, whatever the equivalent of a "spin" would be. She figured she had might as well learn to ride, anyway, if cars and motorbikes were inaccessible around here. Her fascination with guns could only take her so far in the technology department.

She sits in waiting to discuss her charges for "reckless speeding on a horse within close parameters of the city" and "destruction of crops and produce." And she's mortified. She's gotten speeding tickets before, but she doesn't have a prominent name around here to back her up this time, nor does she have the money.

To calm her nerves, Asami directs conversation toward someone in her vicinity, betting that they're in trouble as well.]

Soooo. What brings you here?

B. Asami and the Cucumbers
[...and this is her punishment. Which isn't so bad, considering. Luckily the damage done isn't significant, but a straight two weeks of the graveyard shift over recovering cucumbers has done a number on her sleep schedule. She sits on a wooden crate with a gun in her lap, taking it apart and putting it back together, cocking it and pointing it, holstering it, repeat, until it's going to become second nature.

It might look a little suspicious in the dead of night, so Asami tries to be careful of being aware of her surroundings, but it isn't as if she has perfect night vision. So. Yeah.

But otherwise, she could use some company, because now she's back to what got her into trouble in the first place: stir-craziness.]

Asami was definitely one of her brightest new recruits from the influx of foreigners they'd recently received, but Asami's joyride could not go overlooked. she tried to not give her such a harsh sentence, but. Guildmasters gotta do what guildmasters gotta do, and Sylvia wasn't going to be held responsible over one of her recruits' mistakes.

She was about to scold her for shirking on the job, but she noticed she was messing around with what looked like a gun. Sylvia is instantly pinged. ]

Hey, Asami. Gettin' used to them? Tougher than they look, huh?

[ Sylvia, of course, prides herself on her excellent marksmanship. ]

Wataru Mitani | Brave Story

[There's a young boy practicing with his blade on the grounds today, swinging the sword with haphazard slashes and thrusts. From the look of it, it's clear as day that he hasn't had any formal training - while he does seem to have a certain amount of strength and endurance to keep up the pace, he also appears to have been self-taught, and clumsily at that. He's expending much more energy than needed with each attack.

Which is... especially odd, considering his sword certainly couldn't have come from the guild itself, particularly considering his age. Not only is it a real sword rather than a mere practice one, it is fairly unique in appearance, especially if one notes the three gemstones set into the hilt - with space to spare for two more, judging by the indentations. Where could he have obtained that...?

At any rate, he finally pauses for a break, flumping onto the ground with his legs crossed as he catches his breath.]

Ugh... It's a lot tougher when it doesn't move on its own, huh?

[Hey look, it's a kid doing some shopping in Tinwick! He's got a small list of items that he's consulting as he walks, although he also keeps stopping quite frequently whenever a certain shop catches his eye.]

A magic store... I wonder if those are normal here? They didn't even have those in Vision.

[The thought makes him grin. Vision had been a lot like an RPG already - but this place really takes the cake!]

[ Kids were easier to talk to. Easier than adults, at least. She has been watching him for quite some time! This is a bad habit of hers that she won't be breaking any time soon. Watching him gave her an idea of how he fought, though. ]

Um, that is— I mean— [ She hides behind her jian. ... That isn't helping, Kougyoku. ] You have quite the stamina for someone your age.

[ the shift from the physicality of bending to the much more academically rigorous school of summoning is pretty hard as it is. what makes it worse, is mako barely knew how to read the papers back home, let alone some weird academic text on spirits, and here, that's all he does! cooped up inside the mages guild library, with the... assistants.

the corpse-y assistants. who are gross. and dead and nasty and smell, has anyone else noticed the smell?

that is why mako is furtively (but also trying not to look suspcious) slipping the two books he's trying to study into a messenger bag and making his way for the exit.

bitch is gonna go study in a park or something. you know, where it's sunny and doesn't smell like dead things? maybe you'll see him there, legs folded with the open book in his lap, following the lines of text with his finger, and looking only slightly confused.

(this passage is giving him trouble, okay. he's read it three times, or tried to.) ]

[It doesn't take long for Korra to get sick of the growing stench. She's not a big fan of this studying business either, but it it's going to get some semblance of her bending back, she's just going to have to deal with it.]

I don't know how anyone can even think straight in there with that stink, never mind read all these crazy books about summoning spirits.

[This is her greeting as she drops a pile of books on the ground beside Mako, sitting down next to him and folding her legs.]

I'm guessing that book is just as boring as all of these? [She raises a judgmental eyebrow, peering over Mako's shoulder.]

[Here's Mikado, sitting with his legs crossed on the floor at the shelter he's been sleeping at since arriving here. He has little slips of paper in front of him with the names of guilds written on them, and he's turning them over one at a time, thinking.

He really does need to make a decision soon, but there's something he can't figure out, and a voice in his head reminding him just how much he's lying to himself if he says that he's going to join that merchant class like he should...]

Thanks to his extensive study of the Academics Guild's bestiaries, Akari's been instructed to accompany you as a walking, talking guide to the many dangers that may befall you. Or to be some kind of combat medic, even if he lacks the class skills for it right now.

Fortunately, it seems you've stumbled on a nest of small fluffy creatures whose large, adorable eyes are their only defense against predators. And they seem intent on scurrying up your leg, perching on your shoulder, and chewing on your hair. Both of you. Covered in cute things.

They trill, unreasonably pleased with how delicious this stringy stuff is. They are going to kill you with kindness. ]

The blond glanced towards his back occasionally with the constant reminder that the doctor was close behind. Though with an uncertain smile the boy presses forward until the small huddle of little animals were discovered.

Uwah, Akari-sensei! Look at these! Aren't they so cute? [ With a coo of delight, Yogi allows the animals to crawl up his leg and onto his neck, laughing all the while. ]

[After spending a week shopping for a guild to join (okay he flat-out avoided some of them, Nickelhollow was just too terrifying to venture into alone!), Roji had no time at all deciding which one to join. What the acolytes practice is very close to what he practices back home. His job back home was to assist his partner in banishing harmful spirits from the living world, and it seems like acolytes also play a supportive role in getting rid of this world's darker creatures.

[Latvia had a lot of regrets, and most of them involved not listening when the voice in his head told him it was a stupid idea. Sure, lets go to the castle, let's not care about the monsters that will crush you and gut you when you don't have any way to defend yourself.
