TEST DRIVE MEME

So first of all, welcome to Dyspros' very first test drive meme! We're happy that you're interested in the game, and we hope that you have some fun playing with the setting, regardless of whether you decide to join or not.

As a general reminder, we recommend that you look over the game information before jumping in. In addition, if you decide you're ready to join, you're welcome to put in a reserve, and applications will open on May 4th at 12:01 AM (EST). Finally, if you have any questions or concerns, please send us a message!

So now, without further ado, let's get to playing:

A ; NEW RECRUIT

Well then, welcome to the guild, Initiate! After some thought (or maybe the choice was obvious), you've finally settled on a guild, and you're ready to get started. You're welcome to check out your accommodations and see what kind of people you'll be living with for the foreseeable future. This is your home now, so hopefully you get alone with them. If not, then you can just spend all of your time sharpening your skills!

Whether you're just claiming your bed or you're jumping right into the thick of things to practice or sign up for a mission, a new recruit is unlikely to go unnoticed.

B ; MISSION TIME

It's your first mission, which is pretty exciting, right? You have all these pictures in your head of going off to fight a dragon, to come home with great riches and valor...

Too bad those missions are for the higher ups.

No, it's the middle of the night, and you're out guarding the small fields just outside of town from wild animals. Right now you're standing by the cucumbers, which are considered especially important to guard, for some reason. You have to fight off sleepiness somehow, so maybe an animal will come out for you to scare off, or maybe you'll just end up chatting with whoever is stuck doing this with you.

Or you know, if you're a dick, you'll steal the vegetables for yourself.

C ; STORM THE CASTLE

Okay, the missions for initiates are pretty lame, and you're ready for some real fighting. You can go alone, or you can go with some other people, but it's off to Castle Dyspros! You'll find a variety of creatures to fight, and the power of teamwork will help you make progress through the castle!

Or you'll die. There's that too. Good thing it's fairly inconsequential, if weird!

Either way, have fun fighting to your heart's content!

[What bad influence, Gareki. Nuri is actually also assigned to help guard the plants, so he's wondering why Gareki is doing the opposite of keeping them safe.

Maybe there's a good reason for his actions though, so Nuri doesn't quickly place a judgement. He wants to determine why first. Hey, maybe Gareki is just weeding out the bad plants.]

[Gareki is too focused on his task to really give the other boy a glance. But if Nuri looks carefully, it's obvious those cucumbers are far from plants that needed to be weeded.]

I'm gathering bait to trap the animals.

[Gareki should get points for honesty though. He at least told the boy his intentions.]

... But we're supposed to keep them away, not lure them!

[Nuri does finally notice that, so that furthers his suspicions. He really doesn't want to say anything bad though, so he'll remain quiet for a few seconds.

It only lasts that much, because his -hero complex- is starting to act up. With the intent of saving both Gareki's reputation/job, as well as protect the crops properly, he attempts to get the "older" boy to stop by grabbing both of his hands with his tiny ones.]

If we trap and get rid of them, they'll realize it's a dangerous place and won't come near this place.

[And Gareki would get a free meal out of this too. But he's stopped, which annoys him quite a bit. He quickly shakes the small hands off of him.]

If you're afraid, then you don't need to get involved. Nobody asked you anyway.

They wouldn't know that! Because they always just follow their instincts... If they see food, I'm sure that they wouldn't be able to resist.

[See, this logic fits with Gareki's original intent. There shouldn't be any objections there. Meanwhile though, Nuri is being stubborn and is trying not to lose to the shaking.]

No one said that we had to purposely hunt them, either! They said that we just need to keep them away... —And I'm not afraid! I'm also doing this job, so even if I have to protect the crops against someone like you!

Riiiight, so even if the animals come back, they'll just hire more runts like you to protect this place.

[... Kid, acting like a goody two-shoes is only going to annoy Gareki even further.]

Using the crops that we were supposed to protect... They'll be angry at you! If you're truly working hard, then you should do what's right on you're paid for. No one will want to hire you anymore if this is how you'll act all the time.

[In a poor attempt to pull Gareki away from the field, Nuri starts walking backwards. His feet occasionally slide back though, only because of Gareki's rude height advantage.]

If it's just food you want... I can buy us something to eat right now. Just promise me that you won't take any more!

[Who do you think you are? Gareki isn't that desperate for a meal!

With an annoyed sigh, he does end up dropping the vegetables that he's collected. Seems like he's abandoned the idea. For now. He just wants Nuri to drop the idea of him treating Gareki to a meal. It's weird having to accept something like that from a kid that was probably half his age.]

Tch... pesky brat.

[Of course he ends up with a kid like this during this stupid mission. He always seems to end up getting stuck with these types...]

[... Oh. *^* He actually got him to listen. This pleases him very greatly.]

I'm not little! I'm already fifteen... So, you don't have to worry. I can definitely get us a meal!

[In Nuri's eyes, this boy definitely isn't any older than him. In fact, he might possibly be younger! (He has a younger childhood friend who looks more mature than him... The idea isn't far-fetched!)]

You should put them in a basket, at least... I can just tell them that we had to pick them to save them from being eaten.

[See, he's even willing to cover up for Gareki's blunder. All is well. c:]

Or, I can just keep these for myself. They've got plenty so missing a couple here and there isn't going to be that noticeable.

[Where did that suddenly come from? Such a rude assumption about him! Nuri can't help but gently stomp a foot down, trying to make his point across. He really isn't lying!]

And no, that's too risky. You shouldn't underestimate someone. I know that if something was taken from my collection, I would definitely know!

...Suuuuure, you are.

[Stomping isn't going to help your case.]

Uh huh, so you're telling me you're a little brat who likes to obsessively keep count of his possessions. Gotcha.

[He'll put one of the cucumbers in his bag and the rest can go into the basket for the real owner.]

[RUDE... So rude, Nuri can't help but inflate his cheek for a second. Too bad that he doesn't have his ID with him right now, otherwise he would've proven his real age there.]

That's not anything abnormal! You make it sound like I'm creepy...

What if someone took something from you, would you notice as well? I'm sure that you will, right?!

[Anyone can fake an ID nowadays!! It proves nothing!]

Oh, I wouldn't ever have to worry about that.

[Gareki smirks at the other boy, looking as arrogant as ever.]

They'd have to be a really good thief in order to steal anything from me.

Hmm...

[Is that right? This guy seems intimidating, but something about him feels strange... As if he's not completely scary. It's a familiar feeling, but he can't pinpoint why yet.]

Even so, the idea is there! If it ever happens to you, I'm sure that you'll be upset as well. That's why you shouldn't...

[Nuri would continue, but he already noticed that Gareki only stole one. Considering what he planned originally, and how much he wanted to steal beforehand, one is immensely tame. That's why Nuri is proud of him and his decision, instantly earning a smile of admiration.]

You're a good person, after all! I'll reward you with food in a bit. I'll be back as quick as I can, okay?

[Without even waiting for a reaction, Nuri turns and runs. The intent clear, as he is now off to buy food for the two of them as said earlier.]

[This may have been the second time that some kid who barely knew him called Gareki a "good person". He's almost tempted to smack the kid around with the cucumber he ended up picking. A good hit in the head would end up knock some sense into the kid.

But before he could even do anything, the brat went off on his own to buy food despite Gareki's earlier objections.]

Tch, idiot! I said I didn't want any!!

[Maybe he should just ditch the area. And the kid would come back to an empty field with a meal for two. Yeah. That sounds like a totally great plan.

And Gareki was prepared to leave and not come back. But a couple of minutes later, he's standing guard over the garden again. And his excuse? This is still technically a mission and he won't leave things unfinished.]

[Oblivious to Gareki's tsun pain, Nuri just keeps on happily going his way. (He certainly would've started admiring him even more if he ever finds out that he came back for him for the field.) So after a while, Nuri finally comes back while trotting a food bag.

It looks like he ran to the bakery, basing from the pieces of bread sticking out. He stands nearer Gareki before opening the bag further and holding it out nearer the older boy. Steam and a nice scent floats out.]

Do you want the ham and cheese bagel or the cinnamon pretzel?

[This kid actually went and bought food for him. What an idiot.]

I told you I didn't want any!

[Gareki says it really slowly this time so he's sure that the boy would be able to process it. Just as he was about to turn away, Gareki's eyes caught the bagel.

...Meat.]

Tch... since you bought it already, it'd be a waste.

[He's going to take the bagel but he'll continue to act that accepting the food is a big hassle.]

It's okay, you don't have to be shy! Because we're partners right now, we have to take care of each other!

[Clearly flawless -shounen hero- logic.]

Hmm... So, you don't like sweets and favor meat, huh?

[Somebody already has a certain someone figured out.]

Who the hell is being shy. I don't need a little kid to take care of me.

[Sounds like 'idiot brat' logic to Gareki.]

Tch... I'm not interested in getting diabetes.

[Gareki glares at him and chomps down on the bagel in favor of not having to speak anymore about the subject.

Enjoy your sweet pretzel, you fatty.]

[Don't deny it, Gareki. We all know that even Gareki has the -hero complex- as well... c:

Nuri doesn't stay upset for long, though. If at all. He actually just says them as a reminding statement. He's also quick to be distracted by the scent that eventually floats up to him again.]

—Pretzel... [*^*!!!]

[Oh, he will. He's already enjoying it now in fact, since he didn't bother taking it out of the bag. He takes a bite out of what was sticking out.]

[Gareki steps in front of Nuri and then lowers his hand down towards the boy's head. Then he brings that hand close to himself, comparing their vast height difference.]

You seem pretty small to me.

[They may be the same age but Nuri is still very small in comparison.]

Tch... Eat your food properly. You eat like you've been starving for several days now.

[A silly smile crosses him at the thought.]

I get that a lot, but I'm sure that I'll be able to grow more! I haven't stopped growing yet.

[If he has to drink gallons of milk, then so be it... And oh, look. Somebody is talking with his mouth full.]

Don't count on growing. I don't see it happening.

[You'll be stuck looking like a eight year old while Gareki grows into a even more handsome, tall manly man. With even better looking abs and all of that good stuff.]

And geez, don't talk with your mouth full. You'll end up spitting the food all over the place.

[Somehow, Gareki managed to understand that garbled nonsense as strange as that maybe. It was still pretty gross to look at though.]

[ ...!! ] [Wow, anyone would protest after such a rude statement. Though, since Gareki says that it isn't cute and that he shouldn't talk with his mouth full... Nuri instead closes his mouth fully.

Even has he pouts, cheeks extra inflated due to the food. They turn a little reddish out of some kind of annoyance. He's not pleased about the other boy's first statement, of course.

He swallows eventually, then is able to finally talk again.]
