TEST DRIVE MEME

So first of all, welcome to Dyspros' very first test drive meme! We're happy that you're interested in the game, and we hope that you have some fun playing with the setting, regardless of whether you decide to join or not.

As a general reminder, we recommend that you look over the game information before jumping in. In addition, if you decide you're ready to join, you're welcome to put in a reserve, and applications will open on May 4th at 12:01 AM (EST). Finally, if you have any questions or concerns, please send us a message!

So now, without further ado, let's get to playing:

A ; NEW RECRUIT

Well then, welcome to the guild, Initiate! After some thought (or maybe the choice was obvious), you've finally settled on a guild, and you're ready to get started. You're welcome to check out your accommodations and see what kind of people you'll be living with for the foreseeable future. This is your home now, so hopefully you get alone with them. If not, then you can just spend all of your time sharpening your skills!

Whether you're just claiming your bed or you're jumping right into the thick of things to practice or sign up for a mission, a new recruit is unlikely to go unnoticed.

B ; MISSION TIME

It's your first mission, which is pretty exciting, right? You have all these pictures in your head of going off to fight a dragon, to come home with great riches and valor...

Too bad those missions are for the higher ups.

No, it's the middle of the night, and you're out guarding the small fields just outside of town from wild animals. Right now you're standing by the cucumbers, which are considered especially important to guard, for some reason. You have to fight off sleepiness somehow, so maybe an animal will come out for you to scare off, or maybe you'll just end up chatting with whoever is stuck doing this with you.

Or you know, if you're a dick, you'll steal the vegetables for yourself.

C ; STORM THE CASTLE

Okay, the missions for initiates are pretty lame, and you're ready for some real fighting. You can go alone, or you can go with some other people, but it's off to Castle Dyspros! You'll find a variety of creatures to fight, and the power of teamwork will help you make progress through the castle!

Or you'll die. There's that too. Good thing it's fairly inconsequential, if weird!

Either way, have fun fighting to your heart's content!

[ He's actually half-serious and half-joking, though somewhere in his subconscious he might be considering the logistics of his proposition. A pseudo-fight could totally test his knightly mobility, and what better time to do it than the middle of the night when no one's watching? ]

Yeah, I call Berserker. [ He juts a thumb in one direction. ] So. Mighty Mako. Should you accept this modest proposal and come out victorious, I hereby promise to let you sleep on duty. Do some soul-searching. Meditate all your chakras. Also, impromptu bathroom breaks for a month.

[Perhaps that beckoning will occur a little sooner rather than later... Not that she looks as thankful and blessed for the opportunity as he seems! If there's one thing good about Lezard Valeth, it's that the man oftentimes makes his presence known.

She uses that to her advantage -- without really meaning at first, she was here to begin with -- to stay far away, watching him from behind whatever wall or pillar or other obstruction she's stopped near when she first heard the familiar voice. And the Valkyrie-turned-ranger just stares.

There's not a lot else she can do at the moment.]

[Lezard's associates from his and other guilds run off to fight monsters on his behest. While not usually the type to hire mercenaries, it just seemed prudent to use them in this world. Lezard pushes the bridge of his glasses and gives a smile.]

I never believed you to be a peeping Tammy, Valkyrie, but I'm afraid the sensation of bathing in your radiance is something I would never soon forget.

[His cape flutters in the air as he turns in the direction of the Valkyrie.]

We are united once again.

[Just as expected as the bravado that accompanies him, so too is the man's perceptiveness. She should have been expecting this. Since she was, she takes a few steps forward easily and comes into open view, her arms resting relaxed at her sides and no perceived threat obvious on her face.]

... Lezard Valeth. I find it questionable what sort of power would summon a person like yourself here, though I suppose there are many unexplained mysteries in this place. For which goal do you currently work?

Co-whoa [ The birds don't fly off but they do react to the sudden cry.

Her hunter gatherer instincts should have alerted her to the presence but somehow it didn't. A NINJA?

Once she recovers she turns to face the new comer. ]

[ mako's fingers close around the stone, then, with a deft flick of his wrist, sends it flying into the shrubs with almost surprising speed and precision. it disturbs something to say the least, because the thing in question squawks indignantly and scampers out the other side in a dark blur, away from the two and the garden. ]

... Alright.

[ hands slipping into his pockets, he stops leaning on the wall and — after nudging his dumb bag of stolen books against the wall with his foot — leisurely picks his way over to the indicated position. ]

[luckily (or unluckily) for pascal, N has a pair nasty-looking vegan parfaits with him. yogurt and spinach? pineapples? tomatoes? apples? it sounds nasty but apparently he must like them since he bought two...

but gosh, this girl looks hungry, so he offers her one.]

Would you like one? I'm afraid there is no banana in it, however.

Even the pests have a right to life!

[god help him from stabbing this asshole. N knows he shouldn't be surprised such a disgusting person would ever hurt kyurem, but it's still aggravating-- even moreso knowing he can't do anything about it.]

If you could look outside yourself for more than five minutes, you would see that. There is no trusting man-made devices; in the end, watching over the garden ourselves is the best solution.

[even though he just said nothing is black and white.]

[ No. The birds. Her possible new friends. There go her dreams of birdie sleepovers in the trees or camp outs in a cave. Not to mention their post-mission celebration dinners and trips to the arcade. ]

And now they're gone... [ she hangs her head a moment before rounding on him. Her face is hidden in the cloak so hopefully her voice conveys her emotion of losing the birds. ]

You have to be quiet. The birds here are shy.

[Lezard faced upwards at the ceiling all the while still smiling. He places a hand in his pocket.]

They say that at the peak of this castle is a god able to grant wishes. While it is a juvenile rumor, I haven't got much to work with and most of the arcane texts in the academic guild's library lead back here. So here I am, doing a little investigative work, striving laboriously once again to bridge the two of us closer together.

[needlecraft]

[ He wasn't referring to her, but Sidel squints as she comes over. Those... Loops.

That hair color. ]

Is that a wig...? [ He actually meant to ask something important that related to the classes and items, but he ends up saying that instead. It doesn't look like he's going to take any of that back. ]

[needlecraft]

[ At first he doesn't reply because he's scoping the area. Sorry, shrimp, he can't even see you. It only takes him a couple of seconds longer before he notices that she's... Tiny, so he has to adjust his viewpoint. ]

Nah. Are you telling me that isn't a dye, Christmas tree? [ Though he's kind of used to odd colors, it was more of a trend than anything in the city. Crazy hair color wasn't exactly too natural. His hand falls to his side, actually going to rest on his hip. ]

No... You didn't do anything wrong. [ His arm is going to slowly fall to his side now as he looks over to her. She does have weird hair... Then again, wings are a big thing, aren't they? Sidel remembers several fashion designers airing their ~Angel~ line... Feathers and wings everywhere.

... Still weird. His eyes narrow as he watches her try to be one with this glass. ]

Hey... Can I ask you a question?

[ Doesn't that imply that the shirt should be bedazzled with "I'm with Stupid Hair!"...

And your haircut is weird, bro. You know why? You turned and thought he was referring to you!! TOTALLY. Otherwise, he blinks a couple of times. He has a serious question here, but-- ]

Aren't you a little too young to be outside?

[ Some silence. ]

[ As Mako makes his way over to the distant spot, Dave turns in his direction, feet kicking the dirt on the ground. ]

So, rules. [ Uncertainty levels rising as he bends his knees kind of like a goalie getting ready to catch a ball; hands on his knees after he rubs them a few times. ] First one to K'O the other wins night job privileges. First one to get K'Oed by the other eats dust. Or worse. Your pick, yo.

[ He'll give Mako a moment to warm up, then it's countdown time. ]

[beat]

[ Brownie points definitely go to Lucciola for being way more engaged about this topic than Dave can ever hope to be. But if you'd happen to replace 'Punisher' and 'Berserker' with names of Pokemon, well... that just might spur a little more interest.

But anyway, he nods his head as he listens; when Lucciola finishes talking, there's a short mull of silence before Dave starts to speak. ]

A'ight, makes sense. But I think the real question here is — can you apply that logic to a vampires versus werewolves high school-styled debate.

[ The fact that this guy's pale skin stands out in the dead of night might've inspired Dave a little. ]

Oh man, it's all hells of fishy round here, but the tech's not the reason why. I mean, you gotta expect in a fantasy game that shit's gonna run on magic and stuff like that, not computers. You add in computers and robots? You're more in the sci-fi genre.

[ and roxy's always been more of a fantasy enthusiast. ]

Yeah, not gonna lie, but this place smells worse than a fish market in the afternoon.

[He can be happy too!! Like when he sits quietly in a corner during a festival and watches other people party. He's happy then.

The fact that Dio actually sounds serious is enough to make Mahmut take a step back and calm the fuck down. It's hard for him to tone down the militant seriousness, he's been in the army since he was 12. He is also painfully aware of his serious nature since it gets poked fun at all the time.

So the least he can do is concede that Dio is right.]

That's true. I have no doubt the trip would have been more enjoyable if I didn't seem to invite discord.

[He literally walked into a city the day it declared war. He has bad luck... Not that he doesn't get enjoyment in thwarting the Empire's plans but that isn't standard Fun.]

[ totally normal! she parries that strike with her scabbard again ]

I thought about it, but--

[ she stops talking, eyes noticing how the frost of the sword is slowly spreading onto her scabbard, and pulls it back, side-stepping and swiping horizontally with her own blade ]

[ she blinks, then points to herself. ]

Me? How can I help?

[ it sure does, and he nearly chokes on his stolen cucumber in surprise, falling onto all fours and hacking. After a moment of undignified coughing, he whips his head around, narrowing his eyes at the stranger. ]

What the hell? Are you tryin' to kill me?!

[beastlier]

[ the phrase 'not hungry' doesn't even exist in Apollo's dictionary... so he just stares at him blankly for a second before shrugging. ]

More for me. [ Practically shoving the entire remainder of the loaf in his mouth now. And then proceeding to talk with his mouth full. ] You 'onna join dish one, too? You look strong.

[ his ears twitch a bit when she sits next to him but other than that, Leon doesn't make any further physical sign noting her presence. He does take a moment to glance away from the pages of the book to his partner though. ]

It's a book on the history of this world.
