TEST DRIVE MEME

So first of all, welcome to Dyspros' very first test drive meme! We're happy that you're interested in the game, and we hope that you have some fun playing with the setting, regardless of whether you decide to join or not.

As a general reminder, we recommend that you look over the game information before jumping in. In addition, if you decide you're ready to join, you're welcome to put in a reserve, and applications will open on May 4th at 12:01 AM (EST). Finally, if you have any questions or concerns, please send us a message!

So now, without further ado, let's get to playing:

A ; NEW RECRUIT
Well then, welcome to the guild, Initiate! After some thought (or maybe the choice was obvious), you've finally settled on a guild, and you're ready to get started. You're welcome to check out your accommodations and see what kind of people you'll be living with for the foreseeable future. This is your home now, so hopefully you get alone with them. If not, then you can just spend all of your time sharpening your skills!

Whether you're just claiming your bed or you're jumping right into the thick of things to practice or sign up for a mission, a new recruit is unlikely to go unnoticed.
B ; MISSION TIME
It's your first mission, which is pretty exciting, right? You have all these pictures in your head of going off to fight a dragon, to come home with great riches and valor...

Too bad those missions are for the higher ups.

No, it's the middle of the night, and you're out guarding the small fields just outside of town from wild animals. Right now you're standing by the cucumbers, which are considered especially important to guard, for some reason. You have to fight off sleepiness somehow, so maybe an animal will come out for you to scare off, or maybe you'll just end up chatting with whoever is stuck doing this with you.

Or you know, if you're a dick, you'll steal the vegetables for yourself.
C ; STORM THE CASTLE
Okay, the missions for initiates are pretty lame, and you're ready for some real fighting. You can go alone, or you can go with some other people, but it's off to Castle Dyspros! You'll find a variety of creatures to fight, and the power of teamwork will help you make progress through the castle!

Or you'll die. There's that too. Good thing it's fairly inconsequential, if weird!

Either way, have fun fighting to your heart's content!

[well, hirato is right, he just doesn't know it yet. there's a lot of potential in the young boy, even if he certainly does not look the part of any noble paladin--

oh wow this dude is super tall.

rion looks up. wait, is he asking him? really? YES! he nods enthusiastically, almost like a puppy, but... doesn't answer out loud. strange!]

[ah, someone's talking to him! he jumps a little bit, then looks up... ah, does he really need to look happier about it? it's more that he knows he wants to do this, but he isn't sure if they'll let him in, looking like he does.

after a moment, a frown. how does he express this, exactly? he's not sure he wants to write just yet.]

D:
[Mahmut has a soft spot for performers. Out of all professions they are the ones that tie a community together. Not to mention they can give a good idea of what the people believe and think. So he made sure to visit the entertainment district, Silverbourne, quickly after arriving in this strange city.

He ignores the bars and clubs, opting instead to watch the street performers. It doesn't matter to him if they are just practicing or performing full stop. No matter if the act was perfect or filled with flaws he politely claps when it's done. He mostly looks perplexed though.]

How strange...

[He doesn't mean the performance! Really! But you don't know that and it sounds like he just insulted your/your friend's act.]

[ well, well-- someone's a grumpypants here, huh? but that's a slightly hypocritical thing to think on his part. despite appearances, hirato isn't quite as cheery as he tends to act.

but he's learned how to be a good hypocrite. ]

Oh? [ lifting a hand to his mouth to cover up, he tries and doesn't quite succeed at holding in a chuckle. ] Is that why you threw that rock?

[ haha j/k he Knows he just wants to make colress say it ]

[ When it's the dead of night and the greatest mission your guild can currently offer you is guarding someone's vegetable garden, things tend to get... boring. If you're Dave, the best way to ignore the increasingly persistent nudge of offense taken from being assigned such an unimportant task would clearly be to make conversation with the guy next to you. You know, to stay awake. Fuck their life story. ]

Dude. If a Berserker and a Punisher had a fight who would win?

[ Referring to two classes, of course. ]

[ And he's wandering around Silverbourne, which is considerably less busy than the last district he was in. He's making his way through, but he can't shake the feeling of unease. It's all too familiar with these parts of town; one minute he's window-gazing, the next some guy on a motorcycle pulls up right in front of him and threatens to shoot, forcing him to give up his monkey. Just like how he could've sworn that happened in a less-than-ironic graphic comedy, his life in Goldvale would likely be enhanced by having some sort of good luck charm. And even if the guild leader asked, he'd just tell him the his revelation. You know what would make guild life better? A pet monkey.

So he stops the next person he sees. ]

Hey — you know where the pet store is?

[ dude, don't rip on the night shift jobs, they're respectable, and, more importantly, pay money. you can't buy a pet monkey without money, bro. arms folded as he leans against a short stone wall, mako quirks an eyebrow at the question, is silent a moment, then replies with certainty, ]

Punisher. [ and status effects will counteract the bonuses going berserk gives, plus w/out a healer, they're going to run themselves into the ground, PLUS if you consider the hexing capabilities of a Punisher... ]

[ there's certainly determination in this girl-- it's more of a feeling than anything else, but it's definitely there even if he's not quite on the mark at the end of the day. yet another thing here that reminds him of how he used to be.

gaze meeting hers, he can't quite suppress the surprise at her sudden concern. comes with being so used to the concept of being seen as a person of inhuman strength by people who don't know him personally. ]

My apologies. It wasn't my intention to cause concern. [ a beat. ] I believe I'm good to go for at least a few more hours.

[Did someone say birds?

As a falconer Mahmut is used to larger birds than pigeons but he was also feeling lonely. For some reason his golden eagle didn't come to the city with him and the lack of that constant was upsetting.

He skillfully walks up to Hiyoko and her collection of pigeons, not a single one spooks and flies off. The downside is that she might not have heard him approach either.]

What technique is that?

[ an interesting reaction. that isn't quite what hirato expected to bring out with those words, but... people act just like he expects them to so often. it's a little bit fun when some of them act in ways that makes it impossible for him to predict their reactions.

still, he'd like to look into that later. just because. ]

You heard that, did you? [ yeah, let's change the topic for now!!! ] It appears I've reached the age where my youthful energy isn't as strong as it once was.

[ yeah he jokes A Lot about how old he totally is ]

[damn straight he's a grumpypants right now he has better things to do with his life than to watch plants sleep. hirato's sorry attempt at holding back his chuckle does not go unnoticed, and colress is quick to shoot him a sidelong leer that lasts for all of five seconds. he turns away, cracking a smile with a halfhearted shrug through crossed arms.

at least he was in decently good company, he supposed.]

Perhaps. You didn't expect me to get my gloves dirty by actually slaying it or anything, did you?

[despite his sour mood, he seems to be fitting into the world Quite Nicely.]

[ oh... does she mean a dungeon like a prison... hell if he knows. if she means a prison, though, that's pretty terrible. then again, he doesn't think she seems like the type who would end up in prison.

though it's foolish to judge based on appearances alone. he's all too aware of that. either way, he doesn't comment on the dungeon part for now. ]

I can understand that. If I were younger, I would most likely have felt the same way.

[ and he would have Sulked. ]

[ Where's Leo to punch him when he needs him!! Elliot looks less annoyed though, mollified by her apology and the knowledge that he shouldn't be a jerk... ]

[The angry what now--oh. Oh, it's funny, oh no!! Dio laughs and uprights himself, but stays up there on the crate. Wow she is really getting into that stomping.]

It's a nice pin, but I don't need it. [He's still grinning, but he holds up his hands and waves them, he's innocent!!] I swear I'm not in the thieves' guild!

[Ichiyou's dance is kind of strange, compared to the showy and lovely dances his fellow performers usually put on, and by the reddening of his face, he's hyper-aware of it. which is why he'll turn to Mahmut immediately.]

You don't have to watch if you don't want to then, since it's so strange!!

[ Wow, Mako. Going for the guy with the upperhand defense — which is totally fine, but also kind of predictable. Dave's just going to raise an eyebrow in a completely subtle I Knew It manner. God, he's really bored. ]

Sure. [ Still. If he was a Punisher, the prospect of a Berserker coming, well, berserk at him is slightly unsettling. He probably couldn't hit CTRL+B fast enough; but then again, he's yet to see berserk mode in action. ]

[What a hardass. Does he think Dio doesn't notice the looks he keeps getting? Because he does. He's too young & wild & free (Bryan Adams ver.) to stand still and actually do - work. "Work" in the vegetable field.

That answer is more practical (and uptight) than he had predicted - do you know how to make small talk? - but he actually agrees. That's the kind of practical he's interested in, and he has a faint, glimmering hope! that maybe this person is also totally obsessed with flying. So.]

Are you a pilot?

[This question comes complete with a wavy path of his hand through the air, it's a ship it's flying, and a vroooom. He beams. Please, crush his hopes and dreams of having pilot friends.]

[Oh no! His hands fly up immediately in a placating gesture. Please don't get angry! He's kind of whipped by his dancer friend back home, performers are scary, okay??]

Ah- I didn't mean you! Although I have never seen dancing like yours before!

[Stop, Mahmut. Instead he points around at all the store fronts and clubs.]

Back home dancers perform completely outside is all I meant. It's very closed off here.

[Dio doesn't actually look at him for a few seconds, as he's expecting an answer, but when it doesn't come he glances. Was that offensive? Is he shy? Dio blinks. Well.]

Happier is the other way. [And he demonstrates, poking his cheeks to indicate that smiles are in the upward direction!! Yeah! He'll stand there looking hopeful until it works, probably.]

[Mahmut stares.]

Pilot? Do you mean a captain?

[Like, on the sea? Is that what the waving means? It's the only thing he can think of that it could be, really. Is it really so strange to tell direction from the stars? All travelers have to.]

I'm not one either way.

[He thinks about that. If she comes from a place with a strange sky, are her lucky phenomena completely ordinary to him? That makes sense.]

Like what? Is it interesting?

[unfortunately Kon is probably not the friendly person she just ambushed, thanks to his unkempt hair and messy scholar robes everything about him screams delinquent... but the question interests him long enough for him to push himself into this conversation yeaaah]

Far east? What's the name of it?

[Faintly, you can hear the sound of Dio's heart breaking. All of him droops - it's like he wilts, like these cucumbers they're totally doing a great job of guarding. His waving hand drops sadly.

But more importantly:] A captain in the sky, maybe. You don't know?

[Like, he knew Guild technology is pretty high end, but not understanding the word pilot? Why this.]

You really don't know? [He might be actually whining.]

[Does he really look like someone who knows airplanes are a thing? Cause he totally doesn't.

He had no idea this meant so much to Dio though. He actually feels bad just seeing how disappointed he is at the lack of understand. So he eases up a bit. It's not like he's the type to turn his nose up at new information. A nod of his head: no.]

The only thing in the sky are birds.

[Which he knows tons about btw.]

[he has his eye on you Mahmut!! but he does dial down the GLARE long enough to look around]

They like the stage and the bright lights, I guess. It's all just annoying to me. [he shrugs, dancing back home was a ritual, and less for entertainment.]
