TEST DRIVE MEME

So first of all, welcome to Dyspros' very first test drive meme! We're happy that you're interested in the game, and we hope that you have some fun playing with the setting, regardless of whether you decide to join or not.

As a general reminder, we recommend that you look over the game information before jumping in. In addition, if you decide you're ready to join, you're welcome to put in a reserve, and applications will open on May 4th at 12:01 AM (EST). Finally, if you have any questions or concerns, please send us a message!

So now, without further ado, let's get to playing:

A ; NEW RECRUIT

Well then, welcome to the guild, Initiate! After some thought (or maybe the choice was obvious), you've finally settled on a guild, and you're ready to get started. You're welcome to check out your accommodations and see what kind of people you'll be living with for the foreseeable future. This is your home now, so hopefully you get alone with them. If not, then you can just spend all of your time sharpening your skills!

Whether you're just claiming your bed or you're jumping right into the thick of things to practice or sign up for a mission, a new recruit is unlikely to go unnoticed.

B ; MISSION TIME

It's your first mission, which is pretty exciting, right? You have all these pictures in your head of going off to fight a dragon, to come home with great riches and valor...

Too bad those missions are for the higher ups.

No, it's the middle of the night, and you're out guarding the small fields just outside of town from wild animals. Right now you're standing by the cucumbers, which are considered especially important to guard, for some reason. You have to fight off sleepiness somehow, so maybe an animal will come out for you to scare off, or maybe you'll just end up chatting with whoever is stuck doing this with you.

Or you know, if you're a dick, you'll steal the vegetables for yourself.

C ; STORM THE CASTLE

Okay, the missions for initiates are pretty lame, and you're ready for some real fighting. You can go alone, or you can go with some other people, but it's off to Castle Dyspros! You'll find a variety of creatures to fight, and the power of teamwork will help you make progress through the castle!

Or you'll die. There's that too. Good thing it's fairly inconsequential, if weird!

Either way, have fun fighting to your heart's content!

[the young boy looks out of place here. the whole 'thin and not very muscular', the whole '5'0"', the whole... well, there's a lot of things that lead one to believe that perhaps he's mistaken. because this is not the scholar's guild; this is the warrior's guild that he is standing in front of, looking like he's trying to make up his mind. looking like he ... really badly wants to go in but can't work up the courage to make his feet move.

he's got a notebook and pen in hand, too. maybe he's really trying to decide on something else - such a small teenager can't possibly be looking into being a warrior, can he?]

[one tiny paladin looking for group. of course, most people have not taken him up on this offer because he looks a little silly in the armor that's just a bit too big for him, a sword it's not clear if he can totally wield correctly...

but he's trying, bless his heart. do you want him to tag along?]

[ bless his young heart indeed. while many would scorn at letting a young lad like this tag along, hirato quite firmly believes that's what makes so many people the sad fools that they are. he knows that the most amazing things can come from something small and insignificant. and maybe he sees himself there to a certain degree, when he was still growing and learning the basics of being a soldier.

but he also decides to approach because of a selfish desire; this could be interesting, and lord knows hirato is just a little bored here--

Looking for a group? [ wow look at how cool and tall he is!!!!!! ]

[well, hirato is right, he just doesn't know it yet. there's a lot of potential in the young boy, even if he certainly does not look the part of any noble paladin--

oh wow this dude is super tall.

rion looks up. wait, is he asking him? really? YES! he nods enthusiastically, almost like a puppy, but... doesn't answer out loud. strange!]

[ well, there's no saying hirato can't help him with the basics a bit... he has a habit of playing a mentor role at times.

whoa little guy!!! what an enthusiastic kid, but it strikes him as odd that he doesn't respond verbally. however, hirato doesn't let that show on his face. ]

As it is, I happen to be lacking in companions right now. [ as much as he crazyloves his buddies from home he kind of needs a break from them at times ] If it pleases you, I would be delighted to join forces for a bit.

[more enthusiastic nodding! oh wow, this is really cool! someone picked him! --

wait. he stops for a moment, looking worried. this isn't a joke, is it? because that's happened before. people think it's funny to pick on him. so that sudden excitement has changed to worry as he grips his sword.]

[tophat]

[ he would Never!!

actually, no. he would so do that, but not right now! honestly! he can be nice. sometimes. ]

Hmm? Are you worried about something? [ and hmm hmmm?! does this kid maybe have some kind of speech impediment? or is he just super shy? ]

[The warrior's guild is not a guild Dio is expressly interested in. He could fight, but he doesn't want to, and that makes enough difference to send him walking by with just a glance.

Buuut he turns back a moment later, to look at the kid standing there - is that a notebook? precious - looking unsure of himself. He hmms and turns back, sidling up to stand next to the boy and looking at the guild entrance.]

If you want to go in, you have to look happier about it.

[derpiest]

[ah, someone's talking to him! he jumps a little bit, then looks up... ah, does he really need to look happier about it? it's more that he knows he wants to do this, but he isn't sure if they'll let him in, looking like he does.

after a moment, a frown. how does he express this, exactly? he's not sure he wants to write just yet.]

[Dio doesn't actually look at him for a few seconds, as he's expecting an answer, but when it doesn't come he glances. Was that offensive? Is he shy? Dio blinks. Well.]

Happier is the other way. [And he demonstrates, poking his cheeks to indicate that smiles are in the upward direction!! Yeah! He'll stand there looking hopeful until it works, probably.]

[neither of the above, but hey, that's neither here nor there.

it does get a little bit of a laugh out of him, though it's a completely silent laugh. that is the right way to look at things, isn't it?

maybe he can do this! YEAH! and he nods his head, bowing it sorta - he's trying to say thank you but without words...]

[Give him a second, the silent laugh will clue him in. Lightbulb!

The fact that he laughs at all simply encourages Dio to keep doing his thing, i.e. leaning down like he has a Great Secret to share, discreetly.]

If it helps, I'll be rooting for you. [Thumbs up!! Is he inspiring yet...]

[awww! the smile brightens even more. it really does mean a lot, that this guy is so nice and helpful! he starts to step in, and then looks back - he doesn't want to just leave without saying anything, but it's kind of hard to! and he's got the willpower to do this now, he doesn't want it to go away...

conflict!!!]

[Ten points and a pat on the back for Dio, check him out. He hangs back, not sure what he'll do now... Oh, conflict.

He pauses, then takes a guess of sorts:] I'll wait here, if you want.

[Although he's already made up his mind to do that.]

What are you standing there for? [ This regal young woman makes quite an appearance as she shows up in her long, elegant robe. It's almost as if she's royalty! ] If you have no intention of becoming a warrior, please step aside.

[ Normally, she wouldn't bother with putting on such airs, but... this was a new world, and frankly, she's scared. ]

Some of us are more than willing to fight.

[derpiest]

[he does get out of the way, frowning... but he's still staring up at it. he just can't DECIDE, is the thing. and things like that make him want to not go...

but how can he protect people if he's not a warrior?

god, this is all so upsetting and he's getting more flustered.]

[ she's oblivious to rion's frustration, so she walks away!!! jeez what a weird kid.

comes back a few seconds later looking all shy. TALKING TO THE PEOPLE AT THE COUNTER FRIGHTEN HER SCREAMS ]

Y-you may accompany me if you wish.

[... and now she's getting a weird look!!! is he supposed to get out of the way or come with her?! he doesn't understand and it's confusing him

Hmph. [ If he's not going to say anything, she will! She faces her back towards him. ] Don't just stand there. F-follow me!

[ And she walks into the building once more, expecting him to follow. If anything, having someone more timid than she beside her helps her speak. That's her logic behind this.

[ even in the somewhat crowded castle, it's easy for al to notice a quiet boy in oversized armour. holding her sheathed sword in one hand, she approaches the boy curiously. ]

Greetings! Are you looking to head inside?

[derpiest]

[a slow nod. he's definitely looking to, but he's been overlooked... and he's kind of expecting her to laugh at him, because that's What People Do. but he'll be good, honest!

he wants to think, anyway.]

[derpiest]

[wait. she means him, right?

there's this shift in his look; at first it's a slow, unbelieving look of bewilderment/confusion, because who would want him? if he doesn't believe in himself, why would anyone else?

but if she's sure! the confusion slowly turns to a huge, wide grin - yes! he'd like to group up! he'd love to help! as if the smile doesn't say enough, there's some overenthusiastic nodding.]
