A ; NEW RECRUITWell then, welcome to the guild, Initiate! After some thought (or maybe the choice was obvious), you've finally settled on a guild, and you're ready to get started. You're welcome to check out your accommodations and see what kind of people you'll be living with for the foreseeable future. This is your home now, so hopefully you get alone with them. If not, then you can just spend all of your time sharpening your skills!B ; MISSION TIME
Whether you're just claiming your bed or you're jumping right into the thick of things to practice or sign up for a mission, a new recruit is unlikely to go unnoticed. It's your first mission, which is pretty exciting, right? You have all these pictures in your head of going off to fight a dragon, to come home with great riches and valor...C ; STORM THE CASTLE
Too bad those missions are for the higher ups.
No, it's the middle of the night, and you're out guarding the small fields just outside of town from wild animals. Right now you're standing by the cucumbers, which are considered especially important to guard, for some reason. You have to fight off sleepiness somehow, so maybe an animal will come out for you to scare off, or maybe you'll just end up chatting with whoever is stuck doing this with you.
Or you know, if you're a dick, you'll steal the vegetables for yourself.Okay, the missions for initiates are pretty lame, and you're ready for some real fighting. You can go alone, or you can go with some other people, but it's off to Castle Dyspros! You'll find a variety of creatures to fight, and the power of teamwork will help you make progress through the castle!D ; PICK YOUR OWN
Or you'll die. There's that too. Good thing it's fairly inconsequential, if weird!
Either way, have fun fighting to your heart's content!Just like it says, if none of the others appeal to you, feel free to make up your own prompt!
B for BAD ASS
This isn't my first all-nighter on the job. [ Truthfully, he would appreciate being allowed to sleep in exchange for switching shifts. He was tired! But he had to show a degree of professionalism around his partner. ] Besides, you look like you could have a friendly face. I'd fall asleep around you any day, if I got the chance.
[ He grins teasingly... Oh wait, was that gay? Aoi wouldn't know, because guys back home don't take teasing as flirting. ] And I think you're smarter than that. It'd be kind of obvious who the culprit was if I were killed tonight.
did you mean b for blatantly homosexual
and it may not sound like he's flirting to him but it sure makes him laugh. had he just proved what an idiot he was in 10 seconds flat or was he imagining things here? people were too trusting. he grins, expression gaining menace. ]
We're here to guard the crops from wandering animals, right? Who's to say that a big, bad wolf didn't rip your throat out while you were catching some Zs?
[ are there wolves here? he doesn't even stop to consider it. in any case, he's lightening back up a little. ]
Don't worry. Just keep your eyes open.
b for... back off... biatch
He reminded him of a certain someone, only with a sense of humour. He was a bit of a nag, wasn't he? He couldn't be too surprised, since it wasn't often you came across someone who was willing to work with the team and expect not to be dragged down. People weren't trusting enough. ]
Alright, you win. I'm not going to fall asleep. You could have just asked nicely instead of creeping me out.
B)
once it becomes apparent that he's already won, he turns and stretches his arms out above his head with a groan. ]
Yeah, well, asking nicely doesn't make for a very interesting night.
[ it never really did. ]
no subject
Anyway, he yawns, getting up to his feet and scratching at his head. If this guy was going to be a nag, he might as well make this worthwhile for him. ]
Well, if we're going to stay up and make this interesting, did you want to do some reconnaissance? Or would that leave you the opportunity to lead me into a dark cranny of the woods?
no subject
he's laughing shortly as he crosses the distance between them. ]
Didn't I tell you it would be fine as long as you keep your eyes open? Come on, hotshot, take some initiative.
no subject
rapistmurderous intent. ]I'm watching you... [ He raises a skeptical eyebrow, obviously joking around despite how straight his expression is. ]
no subject
Don't tell me that's the kind of reconnaissance you meant.
no subject
That kind of reconnaissance doesn't sound worthwhile, does it? Jeez, I can't even see anything in the dark like this anyway.
no subject
You can't always rely on your sight.
no subject
Anyway, he does a good job of maneuvering over roots and uneven ground despite the darkness, but he staggers once in a while when the drop is more intense than he anticipates. ]
There's only your hearing left, then. It's not like you can scope out the area with your nose. Unless you can do that. Can you do that?
no subject
The smell of blood carries very far.
[ that's his answer. he pauses in his footsteps, backing off again. ]
If you keep talking, your ears aren't going to do you any good.
no subject
shiverscringes as his voice is a little too close for comfort. He's literally scaring him all night, isn't he?Self-consciously, he claps his hand over the ear closest to Ali, some of his blood rushing to the very tip and making him all too keenly aware of how fast his heart is pumping. ]
I've got pretty good hearing, so I'm not worried about missing anything.
no subject
turning his back on Aoi, he surveys the open space behind them, eyes where the darkness starts to blend together and make it too hard to see. he doesn't bother to give any other reply but his laughter right away. and then when he does, it seems like he's completely switched gears. ]
So tell me. What guild did you sign up with?
no subject
Aoi sighs, reluctantly speaking up. ] I signed up with the scholars so I could study the languages here. I went to school to learn a number of languages, but it's not like I need those.
[ He has a feeling this guy was going to rib him some more. Ali seemed like the bully type, but it didn't off-put Aoi too much. Aoi is active and fit, but at his core he was an intellectual and could probably serve his use better if he had access to information. He wouldn't necessarily consider himself a fighter, either. Despite his training, he hated carrying a gun around with him and avoided it at all costs. He depended on his power to pull him through his missions, yet it still had its limits and it didn't even exist here. ]
[ He treads through the dirt as he slinks closer to the stocks and away from Ali. It wasn't intentional on his part, but for some reason he finds himself drawn to the pathway of dirt. It's dark and shrouded, but looking Ali's way, it's easier to see him under the reflection of the night sky. ]
no subject
so it's his turn to sigh. Ali watches him stalk off with disappointment. ]
That's no fun at all. Why are you even here?
[ sure, it's a rookie job but what if he really did have to fend off some wild animals or something? granted, he doesn't know that Aoi has been trained, but from the sound of things as they are, he was lucky to have the company he did.
when he continues after him, he doesn't bother turning towards the dirt road, instead following along from a distance. ]
no subject
[ Maybe he misunderstood the meaning of his words, but there was a blatant condescending attitude underlying his question. Aoi has met too many fighters while being here to be surprised anymore, so while it was obvious Ali was an experienced fighter, he couldn't be too impressed. Just how strong could he be compared to the sea of them here? ]
But it's not like we're making much effort. We don't even have much of a strategy.
[ He isn't going to blatantly ask a stranger about their background, but he's curious. Is he tied to some kind of rebellion or military? He certainly gave off a vibe that reminded him of the officers back home. ]
no subject
boasting isn't what he's trying to do; he'd wanted to gauge Aoi's ability to fight and now that he'd done it, he's about ready to drop that idea. the rest comes naturally, because he openly shows such a fixation on fighting. anyway, here he was expecting the scholar between them to come up with a strategy because he'd suggested this tactic and then he comes out with this. ]
Hah! Why don't you own up and admit you don't know what you're doing now? It'll save us the trouble.
[ he shrugs, waving a dismissive hand his way. ]
Smart guy.
no subject
Huh? It's a cucumber field!! [ LMAO. He practically shouts at him, squaring his shoulders in an aggressive lunge. ]
What are you doing here?
no subject
You were hired as a guard, not as a cucumber farmer!
[ though he has to guess Aoi would be better at that! if he wants to, he'd be happy to let him prove his indignation has backing. that's why, once he's crossed over to the road, he taps the blunt side of the blade to one of his shoulders. ]
I'm here for the same reasons as you.
no subject
He wasn't naive. It was better to be safe than sorry, and Ali has proven himself to be kind of psychotic or, at least the very least, abnormal and, by default, unpredictable.
Ali's words seem to grow more distant to his ears with each step he takes towards him, and when that blade lifts and stops at his shoulder, relief finally clears his head. With an absent wave of his arm, he hooks a finger around the blade to gently push it off to the side and away from him. He looks more exasperated than fearful or cautious. ]
Are you done butting heads with me? [ It's a sort of admittance he can allow himself to make, since he isn't accepting that he made a mistake. Usually, he could take condescending words in stride, but this guy was beginning to grate on him. Aoi isn't used to being underestimated like this. ] You can save the lecture for next time if we wind up getting stuck together on another mission.
I'm here to chase off pests and thieves. What about you?
no subject
the gesture of the sword to his shoulder only exerts his presence. he even lets it be pushed away, chuckling as he lowers his arm to his side. ]
You don't have to be so touchy. It's the same for me.
[ he turns on a heel, showing his back to Aoi. ]
But would it kill you to have a little fun?
[ with Ali, it might. he neglects to make note of that. ]
