TEST DRIVE MEME

So first of all, welcome to Dyspros' very first test drive meme! We're happy that you're interested in the game, and we hope that you have some fun playing with the setting, regardless of whether you decide to join or not.

As a general reminder, we recommend that you look over the game information before jumping in. In addition, if you decide you're ready to join, you're welcome to put in a reserve, and applications will open on May 4th at 12:01 AM (EST). Finally, if you have any questions or concerns, please send us a message!

So now, without further ado, let's get to playing:

A ; NEW RECRUIT

Well then, welcome to the guild, Initiate! After some thought (or maybe the choice was obvious), you've finally settled on a guild, and you're ready to get started. You're welcome to check out your accommodations and see what kind of people you'll be living with for the foreseeable future. This is your home now, so hopefully you get alone with them. If not, then you can just spend all of your time sharpening your skills!

Whether you're just claiming your bed or you're jumping right into the thick of things to practice or sign up for a mission, a new recruit is unlikely to go unnoticed.

B ; MISSION TIME

It's your first mission, which is pretty exciting, right? You have all these pictures in your head of going off to fight a dragon, to come home with great riches and valor...

Too bad those missions are for the higher ups.

No, it's the middle of the night, and you're out guarding the small fields just outside of town from wild animals. Right now you're standing by the cucumbers, which are considered especially important to guard, for some reason. You have to fight off sleepiness somehow, so maybe an animal will come out for you to scare off, or maybe you'll just end up chatting with whoever is stuck doing this with you.

Or you know, if you're a dick, you'll steal the vegetables for yourself.

C ; STORM THE CASTLE

Okay, the missions for initiates are pretty lame, and you're ready for some real fighting. You can go alone, or you can go with some other people, but it's off to Castle Dyspros! You'll find a variety of creatures to fight, and the power of teamwork will help you make progress through the castle!

Or you'll die. There's that too. Good thing it's fairly inconsequential, if weird!

Either way, have fun fighting to your heart's content!

[ Kougyoku steps back and sputters. She is legitimately offended. ]

I've never heard anything more ridiculous in my entire life! ...Does it truly look fake to you? It's not, I swear it!

[peachbaths]

[ Kougyoku doesn't parry this time, as she attempts to strike horizontally at her head. This doesn't go as planned, however, so she twists her body and deftly dodges Al's blade. As she gets back into position, she grips her sword with both hands, crouches and attempts a piercing attack at her neck.

She is careful not to wound her. ]

Is it not your style?

[ she's oblivious to rion's frustration, so she walks away!!! jeez what a weird kid.

comes back a few seconds later looking all shy. TALKING TO THE PEOPLE AT THE COUNTER FRIGHTEN HER SCREAMS ]

Y-you may accompany me if you wish.

[lucena]

[He believes her, mostly because he has no idea what any of that... means... What is a djinn, how do you fit a powerful being in a hairpin, what???

Congrats, Kougyoku, he is enthralled.]

How do you use it? What do you say?

[Because literally every vaguely magical thing he's familiar with requires a password, so there must be one here!! Quickly, explain, before he tries to make a grab for it.]

[wait. she means him, right?

there's this shift in his look; at first it's a slow, unbelieving look of bewilderment/confusion, because who would want him? if he doesn't believe in himself, why would anyone else?

but if she's sure! the confusion slowly turns to a huge, wide grin - yes! he'd like to group up! he'd love to help! as if the smile doesn't say enough, there's some overenthusiastic nodding.]

[peachbaths]

[ Uh oh, maybe she shouldn't have said that. She pulls it back close and out of reach. ]

Um! "Dwell in me, Vinea..." Something like that, it's a little long.

[ The man may be a little obnoxious, but he knows when he's done something wrong. He even bows when he apologizes. ]

O-oh. I'm very sorry, miss. I didn't realize—by the time I got here, I thought they were ready to spread their wings and fly!

[defendre]

Huh? Could it be that they simply don't like me?

[ Looks like he figured that out on his own... ]

[defendre]

Now that I think about it, it seemed like you were talking to them earlier! Perhaps you have been blessed by Hirscerf? What did they say?

Ahaha, gods, no! If I was, I'd have already done that moments ago. [ He dismisses the idea with a wave of his hand, which then closes to a fist that rests on his hip. ] Goldvale's cucumbers are the best in Reis Alurelia, I'll have you know. They'll make you pay a hefty sum for that!

[lucena]

[Oh nooo, but it's so interesting...]

Don't be shy! [He leans down a little, the very picture of encouraging.] It's something you're proud of, right? Why don't you show off?

[ Chloe thinks this transition is a little strange, but she rolls with it. Can't hurt to reply, after all. And perhaps saying it out loud would help her organize her thoughts. ]

Electricity sounds good, since I'm familiar with it... [ and a quick blink to process her next line of dialogue-- ]

But it's not like I can change it, right?

[ She works on reeling the wires into neat loops around her hand so that the sword doesn't trail too far off. ] I don't know how to use a sword though.

[ If that hasn't been... evident. ]

[peachbaths]

But it doesn't work— [ BUT SHE'S EASILY INFLUENCED, so she gets into position and raises her hairpin. ] Ooh, okay. But don't expect anything great.

O spirit of Sorrow and Isolation, in the name of my magoi and my will to grant me a greater power, I order you and your members... dwell in me, Vinea!

[ ...Nothing's happening... ]

Well, it would be better if I could use it right now.

[peachbaths]

[ Kougyoku's never worked with electricity before, so that sounds good to her. But how this girl isn't a mage right now is worrying.

Kougyoku slides her sword back in its sheath as she speaks to her. ]

I don't understand. If you are skilled at commanding electricity, why did you choose to fight with a sword?

[ex_amain424]

[ Chloe stays silent as if she's trying to figure out how to word what she wants to say. She looks down at the wire, then at the sword, then back at Kougyoku. ]

I thought it would have been an interesting addition to my life resume.

[ She says this with a straight face, deadpan tone of voice, with no sense of mocking behind it. The worst part is, she looks so serious about it. ]

[peachbaths]

Don't tell me that after we've come this far! [ She's doing the angry stomping dance CHLOEEEEEEEE ]

[ Kougyoku places her hands on Chloe's shoulders and begins pushing her toward the exit's general direction. She's not mad at Chloe — she's mad at how awful she is at this. This sword thing. ]

We're going back! We're going back, okay? I can't let you fight until you know how to use a sword properly!

[What's a magoi?? How weird.

Well, that sure doesn't work (is she delusional or is it broken, the big questions), but she looks like she could use some moral support SO HE APPLAUDS.]

That sounded very good! Maybe the vessel is the shy one, after all.

[ She's being pushed along, but it's not like Chloe is fighting against it either. This is a change that she welcomes, and besides-- ]

Does that mean you'll teach me?

[ A small pause. ]

Flinging it worked so well though... [ As in throwing the sword with the wire tied on the handle. But even Chloe knows it's not that efficient and that it should be in her best interest if she was taught to actually use it correctly. ]

[Wow right back at you. What a strange yet endearing thing to say to someone........

Mahmut isn't the type to be pointlessly dismissive so he actually does smile a bit at it. Be happy, he could have said something about making his own luck or whatever.]

Thank you. Although I don't think I need it in this land. They haven't even heard of the Baltein Empire here.

[Or his country or anything. So strange.]

[I don't think ninjas are normally dressed up in red robes, pointy shoes, and a full arm ornate glove. It's for falconry and he never takes it off. That hood is definitely more incognito than he could ever hope to be.]

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. It would have been a shame to scare them away though.

[Mahmut whistles at the startle pigeons, hoping to calm one down and coax it to land on his hand.]

[Well, that's one reason to join something...]

No, I'm just watching. I doubt I would ever be able to perform in front of a crowd. I'm part of... The Ugly Jackal.

[The hesitation is over the ridiculous name of the Fighter's Guild. You know, the place that is more akin to a 24/7 bar fight. Just look at Mahmut in his all his 5'1" glory and wonder how he joined that one.]

[ this all comes as a surprise, but relatively speaking, he was used to surprises. surprise attacks anyway. and his reflexes are honed as a result. Tieria's fist meets his open palm as he blocks a punch, eyes wide to match a widening grin, the force behind the blow unexpectedly strong. ]

What a welcome!

[ instead of releasing his fist, he holds tight. if he can keep his grip on him, he'll use it to yank his arm with an intent towards dislocation. ]

Who are you again?

[ he can come to a variety of conclusions fast—this is someone from home, someone who knows him, someone who he's affected directly through some killing or another—but those are just observations. as far as actually caring was concerned, he doesn't. ]

[ thank god she's here to break it down for him. no, but really, he doesn't know the difference. what he knows is that this isn't anything like "home." it seems natural to ask what gives. ]

You suggesting we get out of here? Because I'm not much of a fish man myself.

[ honestly though, how they'd do that without some of that sci-fi gear, he has no clue. she'd hinted at magic though. and it sounds crazy but he's willing to roll with it for now considering the circumstances. ]

What do you figure we have to do, sprinkle a little fairy dust?

[he waves a hand at her 'sir', relieved that he didn't make things worse!!]

Just Shinonome's fine. And, sorry about that. [you know the CRYING THING] Crying's not gonna solve anything, yeah? So -- cheer up.

[has to think for a moment, but yeah he definitely remembers that place]
