annivurtstag, princess lazuli! (June Event)

Annivurtstag, Princess Lazuli!

The 19th of Redheiss marks a special occasion for the country of Vernesse—The birth of their princess! This year, Princess Lazuli has decided to celebrate her birthday in Goldvale, and as is tradition, the week of her birthday is celebrated with a large, week-long festival! There will be competitions of strength and beauty, parades to celebrate the changing season, and even a ball on the Princess's birthday.

However, while there's certainly fun to be had and coin to be earned, the week dawns with a vague sense of energy in the air. But surely it's just the excitement for the festival, right...?

overview
This month's event is the game's first large one, and will be a chance to start to delve into the world outside of Goldvale and the mysteries of Castle Dyspros. The event will begin with the arrival of the princess and prince of Vernesse, and the princess isn't in Goldvale all for fun and games. While Mayor Hubble was trusting enough to allow the characters to join their society, the princess holds a rather different opinion on the matter and wants to see these strangers for herself to carry back to the capitol. Still, she can't only have politics at play for her visit, since there are definitely fun things to participate in and watch as a part of the festival!

However, halfway through the week, the barrier that surrounds Castle Dyspros will weaken significantly, and the festival will have to be abruptly canceled as low-ranked monsters start to prowl through the city. Not only that, but throughout the city, there will be strange apparitions, some familiar and some not. It's up to the characters to team up and stop the monsters and distortions! Maybe then the Princess will be able to accept that you're not spies from a distant country.

schedule
June 17th: The festival begins! The city will be covered in decorations just in time for Princess Lazuli Aurarius’s arrival, and she will be accompanied by her brother, Prince Lapis Aurarius. Throughout the town you'll be able to find carnival games of every kind, exhibitions by local and foreign people on anything from unusual creatures that inhabit the world to the wonders of the burgeoning technology of Ebenoj. An archery competition will also be held ICly on this day.

June 18th: A parade will be held in celebration of Hirscef’s end of spring festival. Everyone in the city will be dressed up as animals, ranging from simple masks to elaborate costumes. This is the day to really party, since this parade lasts all day and is comparable to Carnival in Rio de Janeiro!

June 19th: A ball will be held at Silverbourne's most glorious and opulent building, the Palast Grâce. As the official celebration for the princess's birthday, it's a rather exclusive event, but Princess Lazuli would like to see these strange arrivals for herself. Every character is cordially invited to this event, though they won't be allowed in unless they're dressed quite nicely. It's a good thing they're given a stipend for this reason, right? However, at the stroke of midnight...

June 20th: The barrier surrounding Castle Dyspros suddenly and inexplicably weakens. Everyone in the city will suddenly feel a heavy wave of some kind of energy, which may even knock them down. It's silent and sudden, and its source won't be clear immediately. But about an hour after the barrier weakens, low-ranked creatures will start to emerge from the Castle. They're aggressive and will attack on sight, so be careful! Remember, dying outside of the Castle won't be an easy revival.

But even stranger than that, all throughout the town, there will be strange, ghostly apparitions in the area close to the Castle. They're all of people that seem to be speaking a language that's difficult to understand, and they seem panicked. They move away from the Castle, but they're all unique people. There's more on this below.

June 21st: Higher ranked monsters will start to come out of the castle, to the point that it will be very difficult for characters to fight these creatures alone. The apparitions are also fanning out further and can now be found everywhere in the city. Roughly midday, an announcement comes out from Guildmaster Ossidia that she's located the sources of this disturbance. Characters will have to group together to get rid of the sources, and by the end of the day, the event will end as the apparitions disappear and monsters stop coming out of the castle, leaving only the ones in the city to be killed.
In terms of logistics, this will be separated into three logs. The first log will cover the light-hearted events from the 17th-19th. Each day will have its own top comment on this log, and you can make up scenarios to go under each! The second log will be for fighting with the monsters that appear on the 20th and 21st, and is open to all characters. The third is a log closed to those that sign up for this portion of the event to track down the source of the strange things going on!

the apparitions
The first thing that will be noticeable about the apparitions is their very outdated style of clothing. They mostly seem to be nobility, and they're all frightened of something, sometimes talking amongst themselves or somethings fleeing in terror from something unseen. However, they don't run or walk in line with the streets of Goldvale, and will go through buildings, seeming to follow a different, unseen path.

They're also speaking a language that doesn't seem to be able to be understood, which would make many people not linger, but if a character does, they'll gradually find that they understand what the apparitions are saying more and more. If your character would stay and observe the apparitions long enough for this to happen (about twenty minutes), please comment here here! You'll be given a description of what the character will be observing. Every character that replies here will be given a different scenario.

hunting down the sources
On the 21st, Ossidia will make a post stating that she and the other Guildmasters have found the source of what's causing the strange events, but they're spread throughout the city. Characters will ICly sign up, but if your character is not the type to normally do such though you would like to participate, you can assume that their Guildmaster urged them to. There are four sources that need to be destroyed, and characters will be sent out in groups of four.

However, when the groups arrive at these sources, they'll be met with a surprise. As they're the cause of the apparitions appearing around town, their magic manages to reach a bit further where it's most concentrated. In each group, one character will be randomly chosen to have an apparition representing a memory appear to stop the group from destroying it. These are complex illusions based on that random character's most traumatic memory and will affect everyone in the group. For example, if a character's most traumatic memory was failing to prevent the death of his wife, the source will recreate where it took place and represent itself as the wife. If you would prefer your character not be considering in randomly picking a memory, then you're still free to participate! We'll just choose from the remaining characters.

You can sign up for this part of the event here.

So welcome to the first big event! If you have any questions, please post them under the questions thread! Otherwise, feel free to use this post to plot with other players!
